DESIGN-A-PATTERN XV

DESIGN-A-PATTERN XV (VOL #1) EXAMPLE

To illustrate text and graphic printouts from Design-A-Pattern XV volume #1, the following gusset insert pullover sweater was created by knitting the following panels with a standard gauge machine.

- Front woven panel with rounded-V neckline

- Back woven panel with crew neckline

- Two side gussets using stockinette stitches

- Two short sleeves using stockinette stitches

After garment assembly, a simple knit trim was added to neckline and sleeve edges.

1) Information Screen Tab

The following styles were entered on the Information Screen.

   Garment style :             Gusset Insert

Front neckline style :  Rounded V-neck

Back neckline style :  Adjustable Crew

Yarn gauges were entered for front and back panels using a weaving pattern swatch made from Cream and Red Forsell Velveteen yarns.

Stitch Gauge = 8.5 and Row Gauge = 11.5

A second swatch was made with Cream Forsell Velveteen yarn (stockinette stitch).  These  yarn gauges were entered to re-calculate knitting directions for side gusset and sleeve panels.

Stitch Gauge = 6.5 and Row Gauge = 11.0

2) Measurements Screen Tab

The New Sizing section was used to enter 20 measurements to create this pattern design.  These measurements are listed on the pattern printout.

3) Design Screen Tab

Garment panels are displayed to calculate rows and stitches directly from black pixels.   Panels can be redrawn by adjusting any measurement or changing body/neckline/sleeve style options.

4) Text Printout Screen Description

This screen displays detailed pattern directions after completing row/stitch calculations.  The Preview Editor is a simple word processing tool for panel text and graphics.  'Bottom-to-Top' or 'Top-to-Bottom' knitting directions can be displayed for any panel.  Volume #1 also offers estimated knitting directions based on the Magic Equation.  Patterns can be edited, saved, copied and printed via Windows WordPad.

5) Text and Graphic Printout Screen Tabs

These screens were used to create separate printouts for stockinette and weaving pattern panels.  Each printout was edited to create the following overall garment pattern directions

As shown in the following sample printout, row-by-row knitting directions read like a knitting machine showing left-side and right-side needles being used for each row.  Knitted rows are listed when in-work needles change or as an alert to start armhole or neckline shaping.
